Singles “I’m Just Sayin’” and “City Lights” set the pace for Matt Gary’s career path, but it was with last November’s “Coconuts” that he offered up a laid back island vibe that we hadn’t heard from him before that more importantly, gave us a strong look to where he was heading musically. Now, with the release of his new single “Summertime” everything has come together. The song begins with a catchy tempo that instantly grabs your attention and pulls you into the feel good vibe and makes you move from the get go. As the rhythm pulls you into the song, the opening lyrics set the tone as Gary sings “the sunshine led me to the coast” and continues by painting the picture perfectly singing “where the water meets the sky.” Throughout the song he continues to use very strong visual lyrics to bring you into the scene that has him feeling good; “girl to my left, beer to my right” and “bonfire burnin’ on the beach.” By design all of these lines are put together to lead you to the clever line “I’m on summertime” which pulls you into the chorus that defines the feeling of moving nice and slow, living in the moment with no place to be, etc… While he’s been on the verge of breaking through, this song is easily the strongest outing from Matt Gary thus far. There’s no more stepping stones to take; Matt Gary has arrived in a big way with "Summertime."
